Twice a year my brothers-in-law visit the States and every so often they spent some time in NYC. So when we were talking about our plans for this vacation Maartens brother suggested we stay in Jersey city on the water instead of in NYC. We did just that and are so grateful for the suggestion. For the last couple of days we‘ve had breakfast with a view.

Looking at NYC from a distance we see the whole of it at once. Mostly the beauty and how the buildings weave together in one big whole. For me it’s so different from the fragmented beauty of these buildings and everything in between that we observe when we are actually in NYC.
Life seems to be just like that, observed from a distance we see the whole of it, not just the fragments of all the facets of our life. But we need both, most of the time we are in the middle of living our best lives and at times we need to take a step back and see the whole of it to be able to know what needs attention or what needs to be different.
Metaphorically speaking I think I need a breakfast with a view more often. Moments in life where I take a step back and (re)evaluate. For now I’m gonna enjoy the actual breakfast with a view for one more day!
