Game Day

Yesterday we flew from New York to Atlanta and went to our first NBA game: Atlanta Hawks vs NY Knicks. I am not really into sports, but both {M} and {J} are, with {J} being a huge basketball fan. He follows the whole season and stays up at night to watch the games live and so we couldn’t skip going to a game while here in the States. The fun started when we arrived early and stood in line, together with both Hawks and Knicks fans. There was joking and cheering back and forth and all in good fun, which I just can’t imagine happening at a soccer game with say Feyenoord playing against Ajax. When we found our seats way up in the stands we were surprised at how well we could see the court and the people on the court. And again in the stands the fans were all mingled and friendly with each other.

The game itself was truly exciting to watch, we could not have picked a better game to attend. It was action packed with the score being almost tied throughout the game. I took the following pictures of the score during the last quarter.

What I loved about the whole night was the vibe, it was fun, exciting, hyped, friendly and all round enjoyable. If games were like this in the Netherlands I think I would be a much bigger sports fan and going to games would definitely be a regular date night activity.
